Pagan Socialization

Recently I've been looking into meeting people with similar beliefs -- people who I can possibly learn something from and spend time with. I'm not interested in finding a coven or anything, but I did find a couple meet-up groups on meetup.

I went to my first group meeting the other night at Panera Bread for coffee, and I stayed a lot longer than I realized. I met a few people, and the group does some really amazing things. They do a lot of volunteer work, meet up for each holiday, have gatherings at the river, arts and crafts gatherings, etc.

I had a really great time, and meetup is such a great source to find people and groups that interest you, especially for those of us who live in a pretty well known city, but a city that doesn't offer much for diverse religions.

What kind of groups do you guys belong to? Or are you strictly a solitary practitioner? What types of things do you look for in a group? Do you look for people with similar beliefs, or people with different beliefs and experiences?

Pagan/Wiccan Art Journaling

Today as I was looking for more helpful sites, I stumbled across this site: Aradia's Cauldron: 52 weeks of pagan art journaling.

I really loved the idea of this, and I'd really like to implement this into my notes and Book of Shadows. In her project proposal, she explains her intentions.

An art journal is a journal that you use words and art (sometimes more art, sometimes more words) to record your thoughts, ideas, and feelings in.

The journal can be as fancy and as simple as you would like it to be! Some people draw amazing pictures, while others, like me, create simpler pages. They can be colours, sketches, collages, or anything else you'd like. Sometimes a page can be image based, other times it can be more text based. Art journals let you play and explore.

Instead of a separate art journal, I'm going to start mine within my Book to add a little more energy and inspiration into it. Some of the first things I'm going to do with my art journal is to paint butterflies and a bear, since they're my totem animals, and also write some poetry while writing about why I feel so connected to my path.

What do you think about Aradia's idea, and what are your own inspirations?

Finding Your Animal & Spirit Guides

As much as I hate to admit this, I am really awful at meditating. It's very difficult for me to focus and concentrate long enough to get anything done, and I'm sure many of you feel the same way. Meditating does improve as you practice, though.

I have tried for ages to meditate long enough and in certain ways to find my spirit guides, but I couldn't stay still long enough to get very far. Today, though, I have finally managed to find them, introduce myself, and begin building my relationship with them.

In a lot of cases, like mine, I have always felt a connection to certain animals and names that may or may not be a sign from your guides. I have only one spirit guide, his name is John, and two spirit animals. Of course, butterfly is one of them (a being that I have loved for ages), but I was surprised to find out that bear was my other guide.

Finally achieving this goal, I thought that this topic would make a good introductory post for a couple reasons:
  • If you're a new practitioner and aren't as experienced just yet, your guides my be able to nudge you in the right direction to find the path that is right for you. They can send you signs or omens, and help you in many other ways.
  • To be honest, I'm not really sure if this is common or not, but John also answers any questions I have through my pendulum.
  • In my opinion, you will never feel alone.
To find and contact your spirit guide, I have found an excellent article here.

Later, if anyone wants to share their trip and experience, and if it's okay with your guides, post them here!

Merry Meet & Welcome to My Online Sacred Home

Hello there!

First, to tell you a bit about myself, my name is Astra Rain, and I am new to my path but not new to paganism. Since I was a small child, I have always been interested in various world religions, metaphysical and New Age topics, as well as conspiracy theories and that type of thing.

I have always felt a very strong connection to different paths of paganism, but while learning about it when I was younger, I didn't know or understand much. Now that I'm older, however, I have felt an incredible connection to my path, and have begun to practice on my own.

I am an eclectic pagan, and I worship the Goddess. My goal for this blog is to bring others things I learn while becoming familiar with my new path. I will be posting basics, such as correspondents, esbats and sabbats, etc. I would also like to post spells, rituals, and prayers; chants, recipes, divination techniques, and anything else people want or ask for.

I would like for people to be comfortable here, and perhaps find a few people in your given area to become friends with, especially if you're new to paganism or Wicca. It can oftentimes be difficult to begin networking, so for now, I'll leave you with a link to Witchvox, which will help you find your way.

While I'm getting everything together for this blog, feel free to e-mail me or send me a message here with suggestions of things that you'd like to see here, as well as any tips.

Blessed be!
